Recording Bird Song in the Wild
Description
Learn to record, clean and share bird sounds for conservation with Erin Harris and Ramit Singal from the Wedgetail Birds of Biodiversity Project.
Explore the different tools scientists and sound recordists use and learn how to use a range of sound-recording devices.
You will collect field recordings at the Coal Mines Historic Site at Saltwater River. Then meet up again at Eaglehawk Neck Hall to learn how to 'look' at audio using spectrograms and prepare the files for uploading to public platforms and archives.
Citizen science is incredibly valuable for building call libraries and bird sound recognisers, supporting behavioural studies and species identification tools to research taxonomy and distribution.
This FREE activity is suitable for birders, nature lovers, landholders, students and anyone interested in bird sounds.
No experience needed. All you require is a phone and a laptop.
