Sun, 25 Oct, 8:30am - 10:30am AEDT

Description

Join Gregory Andrews from Lyrebird Dreaming for a gentle Citizen COP bird walk exploring local birdlife, biodiversity decline and our responsibilities to care for Country.

Gregory is a D’harawal man, former Australian Threatened Species Commissioner and lifelong birder. This walk will be held on Ngunnawal Country. Gregory will not speak for Ngunnawal Country, but will share perspectives from Aboriginal cultural science, threatened species protection and citizen-led care for nature.

The walk will be suitable for beginners and experienced birdwatchers alike. We will move slowly, observe woodland and/or wetland birds, and reflect on what local birds can teach us about habitat, biodiversity loss, climate stress and practical action.

Group size will be limited to approximately 20 participants to keep the walk safe, quiet and respectful of wildlife.

Location: Canberra — exact meeting point to be confirmed

Cost: Free

What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, water, hat, binoculars if you have them, and curiosity.

About Citizen COP Australia

Citizen COP Australia is a decentralised, people-powered movement running alongside the global COPs in 2026. Enabled by People For Nature, but intentionally independent and distributed, Citizen COP invites communities, organisations, schools, businesses, artists, and local groups across Australia to host their own events during the COP period. Rather than a single central event, Citizen COP is a nationwide network of conversations, workshops, and actions that bring global climate and nature discussions into local communities. It connects people to science, solutions, and each other, strengthening civic engagement and ensuring citizen voices contribute to Australia’s climate and nature conversations.
