Birding - An Adventure With The Experts Tim Hoskins & David Geering
Event description
Tim Hosking and David Geering are experienced birdos from Dubbo. In 2011 they created a short course to help a few people they knew gain skills and practice in the process of identifying wild birds. They had great reviews from participants, so decided to run ‘one more’ – ending up with eight full courses in both Dubbo and Warren. All processes and examples use birds in the local area and focus on practical skills.
Two day event your ticket includes the following -
Participants should bring along:
For the Day 1 classroom session: a bird field guide if you have one. Preferably a physical book, but an Australian bird app would be OK.
For the field trip:
binoculars or zoom camera (or both). If people do not have access to binoculars we can supply a few pairs – please let us know.
sun protection
a water bottle
sturdy covered shoes
a notepad and pencil/pen
Field guides: We recommend buying an illustrated bird field guide (book) from the latest edition you can get - they change over time. There are four good ones – in no particular order:
Slaters – The Slater field guide to Australian birds
Pizzey and Knight – The field guide to the birds of Australia
Peter Menkhorst/CSIRO – The Australian bird guide
Michael Morcombe – Field guide to Australian birds
Children who are interested to learn about identifying birds are welcome to attend with an accompany adult.
