In BirdLife Australia's 1-hour webinar Birds Bring Us Together, you'll meet five people whose lives have been shaped by birds in very different ways. You'll hear how it can enrich our lives, be accessible and welcoming to everyone, and grow into community, citizen science, advocacy and conservation action.
Whether you've been birdwatching for decades or are simply starting to notice what's around you, this is your opportunity to hear stories and leave feeling inspired by where a shared love of birds can take us.
This webinar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams, as part of the Darwin-Garramilla Shorebird Festival. Our conversation will also take us to the Top End of Australia, home to extraordinary birdlife and communities working together to protect the places they depend on.

As moderator, Kirsty will guide the conversation with warmth, curiosity and an infectious enthusiasm that makes birding feel welcoming and accessible to everyone.
Senator David Pocock - Independent Senator for the ACT
Senator David Pocock is an independent senator, passionate birder and one of Australia's strongest voices for evidence-based environmental policy. David will discuss how birding, citizen science and conservation advocacy can help shape better policy, why healthy ecosystems matter for communities across Australia (including the Top End) and the important role birders play in documenting and protecting nature.
Mitch Kenny - Penrith Panthers
One of Australia's leading rugby league players, Mitch has become an unexpected ambassador for birding. He will discuss how birds provide perspective, mindfulness and connection beyond elite sport.
Freya McGregor - Birding for Everyone
Freya McGregor is one of the world's leading advocates for accessible birding. After helping establish Birdability in the United States, she founded Access Birding and continues to work internationally to remove barriers that prevent people with disability from participating in birdwatching and nature-based recreation. Freya is also currently developing an accessibility guidebook for birding across the United States.
Mitch Rose - BirdLife TopEnd
Mitch Rose is Co-Convenor of BirdLife Top End and a community organiser working at the intersection of birding, conservation and public engagement. Coming to birding later than many in the community, he has focused on using birds as a way to connect diverse audiences with nature - from young people and people with disability to volunteers, campaigners and first-time birders. Through community-led monitoring, accessible birding, citizen science and conservation campaigns, Mitch believes birding can become one of Australia's most powerful grassroots environmental movements.
