Birds of Rockleigh: A Morning in the Bush
Description
How many birds can we spot in a morning? Come along with experienced birder Phil Barron for a relaxed exploration of the Rockleigh bushland and find out who’s living amongst the trees, shrubs and grasses.
We’ll be keeping a special eye out for Diamond Firetails, along with the chance to encounter Elegant Parrots, Brown Treecreepers and other local birdlife. Phil will share his knowledge of the birds we find, as well as the native vegetation and habitat that supports them.
Of course, birding comes with no guarantees…and that’s part of the fun! We’ll let the birds set the agenda and see who turns up on the day.
Where to meet
Meet at Talbot Reserve on Black Heath Road, then we’ll walk together to Brophy’s Scrub. The site is approximately 2km west if coming from Reedy Creek Road, or approximately 5km from the Rockleigh Road/Black Heath Road intersection if coming from the east. Look out for the Second Nature sign on the roadside.
The walk will take place on private property over potentially uneven ground, so a reasonable level of fitness and sturdy footwear are recommended.
What to bring;
· Wear closed footwear/boots, long pants/sleeves a hat and be SunSmart
· BYO coffee cup and drink bottle, we will have refills available
· Binoculars if you have them – if not let us know and we can bring a pair for you
A big thank you to the Pym family for welcoming and hosting us on their property.
