Birkenhead Village, positioned in 1913 as Auckland’s most healthy marine suburb, and is flanked by native bush on three sides. The Village has become a sanctuary for 60+ and growing wellness and health businesses today.

We are excited to host our inaugural Wellness & Health Expo on Saturday 24th of May, showcasing a spectrum of businesses and services offering a proactive approach to health and wellbeing. The day will be opened by our keynote speaker, Dr. Ajmol Ali, he will be focusing on developing your four superpowers; “Think Well, Eat Well, Move Well & Sleep Well,” & will be followed by our impressive line-up of specialists from our local businesses who have over 120 years of collective experience in wellbeing and health. These experts will share with you their knowledge and experience to help you develop your own best self for you and your family.

Prof. Ajmol Ali PhD, Massey University Lecturer, 23 years experience

Aj graduated from Loughborough University UK with a PhD, and is now a professor in the School of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition at Massey University. A disrupter in the health industry, he believes in people proactively understanding their own health, so they can flourish, promoting wellness to prevent illness.

11:30am Healthy Eyes & Recognising Signs of Glaucoma
Tony Cradwick, Highbury Optometrists

Tony is an optometrist and accredited glaucoma specialist, who owns and runs Highbury Optometrists. He has more than 21 years’ experience in diagnosing and treating glaucoma, and treats and manages more than a hundred referred glaucoma patients from Auckland City Hospital each month.

12:10pm Demystifying Acupuncture: Real Help for Real Problems
Yu Rain Zhao, Insight Healthcare, 15 years experience, M. Ost, B. App. Sc (H.B.), B.M. (Acupuncture and Tuina)

1:30pm Family Hygiene in the Kitchen
Nigel Burrows, NSF Burwater, 40 years experience, Dip Env Health

We are told by TV chefs to cook chicken until the juices run clear, but what does that really mean? and is it safe? Around 50% of food borne illnesses occur in a home setting. As one of NZ’s most experienced experts, Nigel shares key information for keeping you and your family safe at the dinner table.

Jilly’s mission is to upskill and empower adults in children’s lives with tools and strategies to build and sustain language rich environments in the first 1000 days. Language-rich environment is the space where children can develop the language skills needed to thrive as communicators.

2:40pm Tech Neck in Children
Morgan Hancock, Insight Healthcare, M. Ost, B. App. Sc (H.B.), B Com Sci.

"Tech" or "Text" Neck refers to neck pain, stiffness and poor posture associated with prolonged use of electronic devise. Young people are using screens from very early ages, and tech neck is becoming a significant concern. Learn how prolonged tablet and phone use is affecting posture and growth-and explore practical ways to prevent lasting issues in developing bodies.

3:20pm Have a Go: Boxing & Kickboxing Demonstration
Greg Nesbit, Urban Sport

Greg is more than just a Nak Muay trainer, he’s a partner, a father, and a Nak Muay mentor to countless aspiring fighters. A true icon in the sport, he is highly respected among trainers, fighters, and promoters alike. Enjoy a short demonstration led by Greg, followed by a have-a-go session for families.
