Birthing Kit Assembly Project with SYA & VSA 2026
Description
On Saturday, November 28th 2026, join SYA & VSA for a hands-on volunteering event that will have a significant effect on the health of newborn babies and new mothers across the world! We are hosting a morning of packing birthing kits to be distributed to communities in vulnerable locations such as India, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.
In partnership with the Birthing Kits Foundation Australia, we aim to tackle preventable maternal deaths caused by childbirth infections. Over 300,000 women die each year from childbirth-related infections that can be prevented with proper hygiene. The solution? Simple birthing kits that contain six essential items:
Soap: For clean hands during birth
Plastic sheet: To prevent contact with unclean surfaces
Gloves: To stop infection transmission
Gauze: To clean the newborn’s eyes
Cord ties: To safely tie the umbilical cord
Sterile blade: To prevent infections when cutting the umbilical cord
How You Can Help: Come along on Saturday, November 28th 2026 from 10am-12pm at the VSA Clubhouse in Ashwood to assemble these life-saving kits. Every kit costs $5, and we hope to assemble 1000 kits. All materials and instructions will be provided, so bring your energy and help make a real difference! If you can’t attend but would like to support, you can donate directly to help us reach our goal.
Location: VSA Clubhouse at Ashwood Reserve (Cnr High Street & Winbirra Parade, Ashwood VIC 3147)
