Event description

Black Ink, based in Magandjin (so-called Brisbane), is a BIPOC-centered open mic space dedicated to uplifting and celebrating Black artists. Over the past year, we’ve created a community hub where artists can gather, share, and grow in a space that prioritizes open discussion and fosters meaningful connections.

Each Black Ink event has featured a unique theme and dress code, inviting everyone to step out in style and engage with new faces beyond familiar circles. We’ve shared memorable moments with incredible performances, shared meals, day parties, and, most importantly, a new home for open mic nights.

Join us as we kick off our first event of the year with a powerful celebration of International Women’s Day. This year’s theme, Moving Forward: Accelerated Action, calls for progress—but true progress is impossible without the voices and leadership of BIPOC women.

Too often, conversations about gender equality overlook the experiences and contributions of Black, Indigenous, and women of color. At Black Ink, we are committed to centering the voices that are too often left out, creating a space where stories are told, truths are spoken, and change is ignited.

Expect an evening of poetry, music, storytelling, and community—where BIPOC women lead the conversation and take up the space they deserve.

Event Spotlight: Introducing Da Martine

Join us for an unforgettable night featuring Da Martine, a rising star in the Magandjin/Brisbane music scene. At just 25 years old, this versatile artist has captivated audiences with a sound that blends the soulful nostalgia of RnB with influences from Congolese music and beyond. Inspired by the music her parents played during her childhood, Da Martine’s journey has been shaped by a lifelong passion for music and an evolving love for multiple genres.

For this special event, Da Martine will be performing a selection of your favorite old-school classics, bringing timeless hits to life with her unique energy and artistry. Don’t miss the chance to experience this emerging talent in an intimate setting—a night of music, memories, and pure vibes awaits. See you there!
