    Event description

The term “blended learning” describes teaching approaches that take advantage of both online and face-to-face learning to increase active and collaborative learning experiences for students. This online LunchVox will feature two academics who have implemented blended learning in very different ways, alongside students who will give an inside perspective.

    Please join via Zoom here

    Webinar ID: 890 4510 5474

    Passcode: 262093

Our first presenter will be Associate Professor Joe Hope, from CoS. Joe has won a VC award and a national teaching award for his blended learning approach. His past student, Edward Troccoli, has spent time on various research projects exploring hydrodynamic instabilities, fibre frequency references and ultracold helium experiments. Edward will give some insights in the ‘what works’ as well as the ‘what not to do’.

Our second academic presenter will be Associate Professor Siobhan McDonnell, from CAP. Siobhan runs a postgraduate course with an online game via Wattle, with no special tech, where even students who have worked in the field find it transformative. Two of her past students Ta’hirih Hokafonu and Rachel Dunstone will join to share their thoughts. Ta’hirih is a Senior Development Program Coordinator for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs NZ in Tonga, and Rachel is the Director of the National Disaster Risk Profile, at the National Emergency Management Agency in Canberra.

Audience members will have the opportunity to engage via polls and a Q&A. We invite you to join us and be inspired to create transformation in your own course.

This is part of CLT's series of Lunch Vox conversations on topical matters of interest, and you can view previous Lunch Vox sessions here.
