Block-printed Wrist Warmers

Norwegian Skinfell entails stitching and wood block printing on tanned sheep skins. Traditionally used for warm bedding on a cold winter night, Skinnfell traps (blankets) were made from multiple hides that were carefully stitched together and then decorated with motifs meant to convey good wishes to the receiver. In this introductory class we will design and print sheepskin into a pair of warm and wooly wrist warmers. In addition to wood block printing, students will learn how to stitch seams and edges. Hand strength is needed for this - small jewelry pliers help. All materials are included but students are asked to bring a measuring tape, small sharp scissors and eyeglasses if
needed. Also very useful is a leather thimble and a jewelry plier.
