Blueback Freediving & Yoga Community Day SAT 5 DEC 2026
Description
Blueback Community Day – 'Cape Peron / Point Peron' Dive Site
Join us for our monthly Blueback Freedivers' Community Day as we gather at Boya Kaarla - Point peron on the most southern coastline of Derbal Nara - Cockburn Sound for a morning of ocean, connection and buddy freediving.
Together we'll enjoy:
🌌 Exploring the magic cosmos of the blue world
🥾 A short beach walk to the site
🫁 Calm morning pranayama and breath practices
🤿 A supervised freedive session
🌊 Our monthly ocean community connection
This is Blueback's fourth open water freedive session of the season—a chance to slow down, reconnect with nature, share breakfast and stories on the beach and celebrate the friendships that make our community so special.
If you are new to the Blueback Community or haven't joined us for anything for over a year please fill out our registration form to be able to join in - its our duty of care to check you're safe and fit to freedive. Thanks!

Saturday 5 December 7:00 am – Saturday 5 December 11:00 am
📍 Meet at the end of the most south-western carpark at Cape Peron that terminates at the 'loop carpark' that has the Vanilla Sprinkles Coffee Van on site*, with parking available at this site if you arrive around 6 / 6:30am - keep driving down Point Peron Road and you'll arrive at the carpark. It is directly west of the Point Peron Lookout. Come early to ensure a good carpark!
*Please note - this is not the POINT PERON CARPARK EAST (which is also a place for parking and accessing the shoreline).
We will explore the nearshore waters, adjacent macroalgal beds, sandy sea floor and seagrass meadows and enjoy the start of seagrass flowering and fruiting season as well as the tantalising opportunity to see a critically endangered Scalloped Hammerhead during their seasonal aggregation at this Important Shark and Ray Area (ISRA). You'll learn all about the marine citizen science project 'Hammerhead Hub' supported since 2025 by Blueback and the newly-listed ISRA (https://sharkrayareas.org/portfolio-item/point-peron-isra/).
BYO freedive gear, your certification*, towel, water bottle, breakfast treats to share, a flask of coffee or some fruit or snacks to share for after the dive! Bring some cash for coffee or to contribute to a breakie BBQ that Blueback often puts on for the freedive community when help is on hand!
Freedive Gear Hire is $85 per set. Contact us at least 3 days before the freedive session via email once registered if you need to hire gear.
