Description

Body Weather Naarm

Expand your physical range and experience your body in nuanced ways.

Conscious of context (place, space, site, Country), Body Weather training increases fitness, strength and flexibility, and develops varied embodied qualities for performance.

Led by dancer and experienced Body Weather facilitator Gretel Taylor, sessions include a physical workout (‘MB’, Mind/Body, Muscle/Bone); and/or perception or imagery-led movement activities as approaches to improvisation.

Body Weather is a comprehensive approach to training and performance that investigates the interstices between bodies and their environments. The practice and philosophy of Body Weather was founded in the 1980s in Japan by Min Tanaka and continues to be developed by practitioners worldwide.

New and experienced dancers all welcome.

Gretel Taylor trained at Min Tanaka’s Body Weather Farm in Japan in 1999 and 2000 and Body Weather has since informed her performance, teaching and research. Gretel developed an improvisational ‘locating’ practice as a mode of relating to place during her PhD and as an ongoing inquiry, with particular interest in ecological and decolonial lenses on site-responsive performance. She has taught Dance and Performance at Deakin, RMIT, Monash and Victoria University, as well as outdoor workshops and regularly at Dancehouse. She is lead Artist/Curator at BodyPlaceProject.
