Sat, 14 Jun, 6pm - 9:30pm AEST

Event description

At 3.30pm on Saturday 14th June at the Irish Memorial, Waverley Cemetery a dramatised rehearsed reading of the 'Paddy Dignam funeral' or Haedes chapter from James Joyce's 'Ulysses' will take place. This hour-long event will involve prepared dramatic readings from this section of the novel and a selection of music designed to transport audiences to turn of the century Dublin and the city's Glasnevin Cemetery where this particular chapter is set. At 6pm in the Gaelic Club, Surry Hills we will celebrate James Joyce, 'Ulysses' and of course the deceased, Paddy Dignam in traditional Irish Wake style with readings from the novel, music inspired by the characters, themes and settings and we will finish with an informal Irish music session. We will offer slices of pizza (vegetarian & meat selection) to attendees during the evening and the bar will be open so that Joyce, his masterwork, 'Ulysses' and indeed Paddy Dignam can be toasted in style.

We hope to raise funds through ticket sales for the Irish Support Agency. Those attending the Wake will also be offered a complimentary ticket to our final Bondi Bloomfest concert on Sunday 15 June in the High Tide Room of Bondi Pavillion.
