Event description

Bonfire Poems: A Themed Poetry Open Mic with Featured Poets

Grab your coziest flannel and come on down to Book + Bottle for an evening of live poetry. If you come as a spectator, you'll hear readings from an open mic followed by a lineup of four featured local poets.

There are seven open mic spots available and the sign-up sheet will go live promptly at 6:15pm. Each reader will get 5 minutes at the mic.

Open mic and featured readers alike will read either autumn-themed or spooky/halloween poems (find prompts for each of these categories below).

Featured Readers for the Evening:

Denzel Johnson-Green

Rose Cervantes

Sara Ries Dziekonski

Alyssa Harmon

Themes to write on (choose one or both):

Autumn-Themed Poems: Poems that invoke feelings of fall. You can include literal or metaphorical imagery: leaves, cold wind, pumpkins, reminiscent fall colors like gold, amber, and brown. Or think of poems made during the fall that bring you to a place and time, or maybe something happened to you during the fall and you remember it fondly or somberly. Doesn't have to be too on the nose with fall themes. But can include Halloween memories, Halloween parties, corn mazes, sack races, anything Fall-themed.

Spooky/Halloween Poems: Write a poem like a campfire ghost story. Recall a scary story, a real-life brush with the supernatural, a door that closes slowly on its own only when you're alone, calls on your phone from people no longer here, local legends (feel free to make up a local legend). Horror poems are welcome as well!

What to Expect:

  • Free Entry!

  • Our full bar available to purchase wine, beer, coffee, tea, snacks, and retail books/wine!

  • A themed poetry open mic for the first seven readers to sign up - sign-up sheet goes live at 6:15pm!

  • Open mic from 6:35pm-7:10pm - Each reader gets 5 minutes!

  • 10 minute intermission between open mic and featured readers.

  • Featured readers 7:20pm-8:30pm
