Book Club: Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski
Event description
This six-week journey through Emily Nagoski’s exploration of female sexuality, focuses on understanding and appreciating one’s unique sexuality, body, and mind. Each week, the group dives into different concepts, from the basics of anatomy and brain science to the influences of context, stress, emotions, and body image on sexual wellness.
Week 1 introduces the book’s themes and dismantles myths around sexuality, setting an open, respectful tone.
Week 2 examines the “Dual Control Model” (accelerators and brakes) to help participants understand what drives or dampens sexual desire.
Week 3 focuses on how context shapes desire and explores arousal non-concor dance (mismatches between desire and physical arousal).
Week 4 addresses emotional health and social factors, emphasizing the importance of connection and meaning in sexual satisfaction.
Week 5 covers the impact of stress and body image, encouraging self-compassion and self-care practices.
Week 6 wraps up with reflections on self-compassion and reinforces key takeaways for ongoing self-discovery.
This format fosters a supportive community where participants can reflect, share insights, and gain a deeper understanding of their own experiences with empathy and self-acceptance.
