Book Launch: 'Cyclone Warriors’ by Dr Tom Lewis
Event description
Join us at the Northern Territory Library on Saturday 7 December for the launch of Cyclone Warriors: The Australian Defence Force and Cyclone Tracy December 1974 – June 1975 by renowned military historian Dr Tom Lewis.
In his latest book, Dr Tom Lewis highlights the significant role played by the Australian Defence Force in the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy. He dispels long standing myths and reveals untold stories from the men and women in service who provided much needed disaster relief to a shattered city.
The book argues strongly that the National Emergency Medal should be bestowed on all uniformed people involved, including civilians such as police, and that a prominent and fitting memorial be established in Darwin.
The book will be officially launched by General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC (Mil) CVO MC (Retired) who will share his unique perspective as both a member of the Army relief force and platoon commander in Darwin in 1975.
Cyclone Warriors book sales and signings will be available at the event.
