Book Launch and Author Talk Thomas Middlemost
Event description
This longitudinal study of curiosa, jointly curated by the artist and Thomas Middlemost, a local resident, with added gems by dedicated long-term contributors, endeavours to extricate the initial inspiration of different series and lay out many of the artist’s series of work across time. The book revels in the continuing body of painting, drawing, printmaking and photography produced by this ever-productive elder statesman of the monotype. It lays bare a life of art, of intertwined pictorial and theoretical revelations, inspirations and chance encounters, prudently practised for the joy of discovery.
This is not an encyclopaedic or complete catalogue of fifty years of the artist’s work. Rather, Series gives the reader an insight into Leti’s process, delving into the inspirations for series of work and their interactions across media, generally focusing on smaller works. We discover recurring subject matter in the artist’s oeuvre, and find that photography, drawing and monotype are particular catalysts for many of Leti’s series. A monotype leaving a ghost residue on a printing plate lends itself to reworking in the framework of a series.
Bruno Leti and partner will be in attendance with books for sale.
