Event description

Join us as we welcome Kim Ulrick and award-winning Canberra writer and editor Sharon Phillips to celebrate the launch of Kim's debut novel, Bad Country.

When the bodies of teenage football stars Benny and Jordy Thompson are discovered at the bottom of the local gorge, everyone is shocked. Everyone except 18-year-old Laura Murray. Laura has the gift of second sight and as her dreams grow darker, more deaths and disappearances occur.

Bad Country is an Australian gothic tale that explores the deep connection between people and place.

Kim Ulrick lives on the beautiful far south coast of NSW and after a long hiatus has reconnected with her passion for storytelling. Bad Country is Kim's debut novel. Influenced by too many Scooby Doo cartoons and The Famous Five plotlines, at the age of nine, Kim wrote her first story, The Spooky Castle. Kim's love of writing led her to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, majoring in Journalism, and she started as a junior writer and researcher with The Australian Financial Review in the Canberra Press Gallery. Kim spent 30 years in the Australian Public Service working with national criminal intelligence, law enforcement agencies and departments delivering national communication strategies and policy initiatives for the Australian public. During her career, Kim engaged with Indigenous communities across northern Australia from Cairns to the Torres Strait, Darwin, the Tiwi Islands and Broome. Kim loves crafting authentic, Australian stories and her writing is inspired by her life experiences. When she's not writing Kim can be found playing golf, enjoying good wine and walking on the beach with her family and her beloved Kelpie.
