Event description

Molly and Maple – the Guide Dogs who changed Nettie’s world by Barbie Robinson and Sara Phemister (published by Writing with Light, Canberra, 2024) will be launched by Fred Smith, multi-award winning writer and musician and currently working as disability inclusion officer within DFAT’s Humanitarian Division.

This is a heartwarming tale of how Nettie navigates a world she can no longer see, yet will never stop exploring, tugs at every thread of compassion and empathy in readers big and small. With gorgeous illustrations by Sara Phemister, this delightful book tells a gentle but profound story that will change the way you see.

Virginia Haussegger AM says of the book: "A beautiful, charming and moving celebration of an extraordinary woman who has turned adversity into a powerful life force, aided by the adorable Molly and Maple, her canine guardian angels."

Barbie Robinson is a Canberra based Arts Journalist, writer, book designer, photographer and arts advocate as one of the Founders and Principals of Living Arts Canberra.

Sara Phemister is a painter living and working on Ngunnawal Country. Sara has exhibited extensively over the last 28 years, predominately in the Canberra, Southern Tablelands and South Coast areas. She describes herself as "endlessly inspired by capturing and illuminating daily life."
