Event description

Join us for this very special event where Hillary Steel will talk about her journey and the stories behind her book IKAT TRADITIONS: The Mexican Jaspe Rebozo.

BRING YOUR REBOZO!

The tradition of the rebozo in Tenancingo has surpassed borders while keeping its historical heritage and our current exhibition Interwoven tells that story for all our guests to see. Hillary Steel who followed this journey of art and customs, shares with us the intricate tale of the Jaspe rebozo while sharing glimpses of her own discovery of family, thread, and friends.

Teacher, artist, and writer, Steel has captured the essence of the colored threads that bind together what a big part of Mexican tradition is and celebrates it by becoming a student herself.

She studied with the rebozo master Don Evaristo Borboa Casas who taught her all there was to know about dyes, styles, and secrets of the trade. We are proud to showcase her romance for this piece of Mexican tradition.
