Bookclub - beyond sticky notes: doing co-design for real

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Co-design is a transformative, community-centred design method which is much discussed – yet inconsistent in its application.

We invite you to join us in a series of conversations as we dive into the very live question of how can we practice co-design authentically and inclusively.

These pay-what-you-can sessions are brought to you by States of Change and Kelly Ann - the author of Beyond Sticky Notes: Doing Co-design for Real a companion guide to co-design practice born of ten years of practice across Australia and Aotearoa.

The conversation will be in three parts to mirror the structure of the book. While book readers will get the most from the sessions, people who are new to co-design or who haven’t read the book will benefit too. Please do submit your questions in advance, we'd love to hear from you.

The sessions:

We encourage you to join all three sessions as the conversations are interconnected. But if this isn’t possible for you, you are absolutely welcome to join in as you can. We look forward to having you there!

Part One: Co-design as a social movement
Wednesday 4th November

5:30 - 7pm AEST | 7:30 - 9pm NZST

In this conversation, we will zoom out to explore the systemic shifts needed to embrace the voices, contributions and leadership of people with lived experience. We will then break out into small groups to discuss the shifts we see as needed as well as how we can each support the social movement.

Part Two: Co-design as a mindset
Wednesday 18th November

5:30 - 7pm AEST | 7:30 - 9pm NZST

In this conversation, we will explore each of the six mindsets for co-design, and go deeper into the mindset of Elevating Lived Experience. The conversation will include a presentation on our ways of being and small group discussion.

Part Three: Co-design as a method
Wednesday 2nd December

5:30 - 7pm AEST | 7:30 - 9pm NZST

In this conversation we will zoom in to explore a few key methods from the book, focusing on how to build the conditions for meaningful participation and convene co-design in inclusive, creative and participatory. You’ll take away a few new additions for your toolbox and again, have the opportunity for smaller conversations with fellow practitioners to share your favourite approaches with others.

Pay what you can:

The three sessions are running on a pay-what-you-can model and we invite you to contribute as your individual circumstances allow. There is an option for free places for those people who are going through significant financial hardship right now. For those who are able to we would suggest around Au$100 for all three sessions or Au$40 for a single session.

When you book tickets choose the amount you want to pay and the number of tickets you want to buy at that price. If you have any questions get in touch with Nicole. Thank you, looking forward to seeing you there!
