Description

๐Ÿ“šโœจ Introducing Books That Bite โœจ๐Ÿ“š An online teacher-led book club for kids aged 9โ€“12 who deserve to discover the joy of reading, not the pressure.

Meet your host: Hi, I'm Deborah Selleck, a literacy educator and co-founder of Student Centred Tutoring, specialising in helping young readers build confidence, curiosity, and deeper comprehension. I've spent many years helping children grow in confidence, deepen their understanding, and discover the joy of getting truly swept up in a book. I believe children learn best when they feel safe, curious, and part of a shared adventure, and that's the spirit I bring to every session.

Books That Bite offers a fun, supportive space to explore stories, build confidence, and connect with peers, all in small groups where we chew over characters, nibble at themes, and explore stories in a way that sparks imagination and builds genuine reading confidence.

โœ” No tests โœ” No worksheets โœ” Just great books, great chats, and growing reading confidence

Registration includes a physical book collected from The Chestnut Tree Bookshop + 6 weekly online sessions via TEAMS.

Online sessions are held from 4:30pm to 5:30pm every Tuesday (starting from the first Tuesday of Term)

Term 2 (April 21 to May 26): "The Girl Who Stole an Elephant" by Nizrana Farouk, a rollicking adventure set in Sri Lanka themed around friendship and justice.

Term 3 (July 14 to August 25): "Bird Boy" by Catherine Bruton, exploring themes of grief and resilience, and the healing power of nature.

Term 4 (October 6 to November 17): "His Name Was Walter" by Emily Rodda, set in Australia, a thriller powered by love to solve a decade-long mystery.

Together, we'll create a warm, fun, and meaningful space for children to fall in love with reading, one delicious chapter at a time. ๐Ÿ’™ Spots are limited!
