Booranga Writers' with Hugh Crago
Event description
Hugh Crago was born in Sydney in 1946. He was educated at Grafton High School and the University of New England, Merton College, Oxford (1969–72) and Antioch/New England Graduate School (1979–81). He lectured in Communication and Literature at Riverina College of Advanced Education from 1972 to 1979. In partnership with his wife Maureen, Hugh worked as a counsellor in Wagga from 1982–1989, but has remained a passionate reader and student of literature throughout his life. In recent years he has been investigating what ‘stories’ really are, and how they may affect us.
Subsequently, Hugh taught lifespan human development and counselling at several universities and private institutes, most recently at the University of Western Sydney (2004-2012). Hugh and Maureen moved to Blackheath in 2000. Maureen died in 2024, and Hugh continues to practise as an individual and group therapist in Blackheath. He has two daughters, both currently living and working in Europe.
Hugh is the author of nine books, including Entranced by Story (2014), Wind-Age, Wolf-Age (poems, 2017) and All We Need to Know (family history, 2018). He is currently working on The Otherworld Journey: Landscapes of Wonder, 1798-2009, to be published by Palgrave/Macmillan in 2026.
