Melbourne’s Halloween Hoedown is getting a little dark and twisted.
Join Boot Scooting Society for a night of beginner friendly line dancing, social dancing, costumes, dinner, drinks and a Halloween soundtrack at Kingpin Melbourne on Collins Street.
And for one night only, we’re putting a Halloween twist on every dance. Every dance will be matched to a song with something suitably spooky, strange or sinister about it.
Monsters. Zombies. Ghosts. Devils. Witches.
You get the idea. 👻
Same Boot Scooting Society dances. Very different soundtrack.
Never line danced before? We’ll be teaching throughout the evening, with every dance broken down step by step so complete beginners can get onto the floor and join the fun.
Already love to scoot? There’ll be plenty of social dancing too, with dances you already know getting their own Halloween soundtrack for the night.
This isn’t three hours of lessons.
We’ll move between teaching, social dancing, dinner, drinks and breaks throughout the evening. If you don’t know a social dance, jump in and follow along or grab a drink and join us for the next one.
Come on your own, bring a friend or round up a whole crew.
And because it’s Halloween, we really want you to dress up. Go all out. Go dark. Go weird. Go western.
Or, this being Melbourne, wear black and claim you understood the assignment. 🖤
RUN OF THE NIGHT
6:00pm • Doors open. Grab a drink, order some dinner, check out the costumes and settle in.
6:15pm – 9:00pm • We’ll move between beginner friendly teaches, social dancing, Halloween tracks, dinner, drinks and breaks throughout the night.
9:00pm • Last dances of the night. Then stick around at Kingpin for another drink, something to eat or keep the Halloween fun going with the games and activities they'll be offering on the evening.

WHAT TO WEAR 🖤
It’s Halloween. We want you to dress up.
Witches, vampires, skeletons, devils, goth cowgirls, ghosts, monsters, spooky western, black sequins and things we haven’t even thought of yet.
Go all out if that’s your thing.
Not a costume person?
You’re in Melbourne. Black is practically part of the uniform.
Wear something black, add a little Halloween energy and you’re done.
Costumes are very much encouraged, but nobody is being turned away for failing to arrive dressed as Beetlejuice.
Most importantly, wear something you can comfortably dance in.

Come hungry.
Kingpin has a full food and drinks menu, so make dinner part of the night.
Order something when you arrive, grab a bite between dances or settle in for food and drinks afterwards.
There’ll be breaks throughout the evening, so you won’t have to choose between eating and scooting.
Food and drinks can be ordered directly at the venue using Kingpin’s QR codes.
GETTING THERE
Kingpin Melbourne is right in the heart of the CBD at 260 Collins Street, inside Collins Arcade.
It’s an easy walk from Flinders Street Station and close to trams running along Collins, Swanston and Elizabeth Streets.
FILMING
We occasionally capture photos and short video clips during the evening for Boot Scooting Society’s social media and promotional content.
We focus on the atmosphere rather than individual dancers. If you’d prefer not to appear, simply let us know when you arrive and we’ll happily keep you out of shot.

FAQs
- Do I need any line dancing experience?
Not at all. This event is designed to be completely beginner friendly. We’ll teach dances step by step throughout the night, and the social dancing will stick to easy beginner favourites. There’ll always be plenty of people on the floor to follow if you forget the steps.
Just jump in, follow along and have a go.
- I’m coming on my own. Will I feel awkward?
Not at all! Many people attend on their own. Boot Scooting Society is a friendly, welcoming community, making it easy to meet new people.
- What should I wear?
It’s Halloween, so come as your dark side. 🖤👻
Go full costume, spooky western, witchy, gothic, skeleton, vampire, black sequins or simply add a little Halloween to whatever you’d normally wear.
Costumes are encouraged, not compulsory. Most importantly, wear something you can comfortably dance in. Boots are always welcome, but comfortable flat shoes with a smooth sole work perfectly too.
- Is there an age limit?
This is an 18+ event as we’ll be celebrating in a licensed bar. Boot Scooting Society welcomes adults of all ages, so whether you’re 18 or 80, you’re welcome on the dance floor.
- Is there food and drinks available?
Yes. Come hungry!
Kingpin has a full food and drinks menu available throughout the evening, so you can absolutely make dinner part of the night.
Order something when you arrive, grab a bite between dances or stay on for food and drinks after we finish scooting at 9pm.
There’ll be breaks throughout the night, so grab a drink, have a dance, order some food, then jump back onto the floor when you’re ready.
- What’s your cancellation policy?
Tickets are non-refundable but may be transferred to another person. If we need to cancel, you’ll receive a full refund.
- I’m 50/60/70… am I too old?
Absolutely not! Our dance floor welcomes adults of all ages. Go at your own pace, sit one out when you feel like it, grab a drink, then jump back in when you’re ready. It’s about having fun, enjoying the music and seeing in the New Year together.
Age doesn’t matter. A willingness to have a go does.
