Botanical Monoprints with Lorelei Medcalf

Event description

Explore a variety of experimental monoprinting techniques. Make a series of unique-state prints using found leaves, grasses and petals. Learn how to add painterly marks and textures to make your own landscapes and compositions.

We will print with cotton etching papers using a traditional etching press and on Japanese Hosho paper by hand. You will be introduced to transfer, subtractive and additive monoprinting techniques.

No experience is needed. A wide range of prepared leaves, petals, feathers and grasses will be provided but participants may wish to bring their own.
Printmaking can get messy so bring along an apron and wear enclosed footwear.

Your Tutor
Lorelei Medcalf is an artist, printmaker and teacher. Her prints are made from intricately etched copper plates, or the spontaneous, painterly marks of the monoprint.
Her daily walks on the Fleurieu coastline provide inspiration for her artworks; whether it’s the natural or man-made detritus washed up on the beach, or her encounters with humans
and animals.
More of her artwork can be seen here at www.loreleimedcalf.com
