Watercolour Journalling from Nature
Event description
Happymess is excited to bring this Watercolour Journalling from Nature workshop to the community! You will learn the fundamentals of nature art and referencing from the field all while exploring with a wide range of materials. Our amazing facilitator Safia will talk about what you can observe and be inspired by in the local area depending on season and ecosystem. Safia will bring along her remarkable specimen collection for inspiration on the day.
You will be given the opportunity to create a series of cards or A5 pictures on high quality paper.
Safia is a local Bellingen artist specialising in watercolour natural history illustrations. As a Bachelor of Science graduate with a career in Marine Sciences and Wildlife Conservation, her artistic styles explore a combination of scientific illustration and nature journaling inspired by found natural specimens and hours of observation in the field. Safia’s motto “If you see something, look closer” encourages curious observation, and is expressed in her artworks detailing often overlooked plant, animal and insect species and the intricate relationships they share.
Safia believes in non-extractive connections with nature, in which our innate desire to experience the wild environment also drives a responsibility to protect it – Showcasing species through art is a way of making them visible and inspiring others to observe, connect and protect.
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be offered.
This is a space for learning and exploring - no artistic skills needed.
