Botany for Beginners with Hilary Pearl
Event description
Come along and learn the basics of plant identification, in this beginners botany workshop, delivered by Dr Hilary Pearl. The aim of the workshop is to enthuse and open the world of botany to our community, and to introduce new skills and resources for ongoing independent learning.
This event will be held in MRL's Seed Pod, where Hilary will be dissecting native flora for us to have a closer look at. It's a great opportunity to learn the basics from one of the best - and we welcome anyone over the age of 16 to join us.
The workshop outline includes:
* an introduction to the Sunshine Coast flora
* how we identify plants
* basic structure of a flower
* a closer look at 4 main flower families in our region - Myrtaceae, Proteaceae, Asteraceae & Poaceae
Hilary will also provide information on how you are able to keep learning - with a list of relevant resources and links.  Attendees will make a small plant press to take home, to further their love and learning. All materials will be supplied, however if you wish to bring your own hand lenses or magnifying glasses you may. You are welcome to stay for a tea or coffee afterwards.
Our native plant nursery will also be open until 1pm.
Spaces are limited.
