BOUDDI ARCHITECTURE TALK
Event description
Get ready for an engaging journey into the architectural heritage of the Bouddi Peninsula!
Steve Anders, a retired architect and talented sketch artist living in Killcare, will be presenting an illustrated talk that delves into the rich history and unique architecture of the area.
With a keen interest in "Bouddi Architecture" and local history, Steve will guide us through the architectural evolution of our region, from the humble dwellings of early settlers to the distinctive weekenders, shacks, and houses that define the character of the area.
The highlight of the presentation will be an in-depth exploration of three iconic mid-twentieth-century houses, each a masterpiece of design:
- The Oskar Speck House (1952-59): A stunning example of mid-century architecture.
- Sir Russell Drysdale’s “Bouddi Farm” (1965): Designed by renowned architect Guilford Bell, this house offers a unique glimpse into the fusion of art and architecture.
- The Lobster Bay House (1972): Created by Ian McKay for the legendary photojournalist David Moore, this house stands as a testament to innovative design and breathtaking views.
This presentation, organized by The Bouddi Society, is part of its community-focused lower cost 'Afternoon at the Bay' series. It's an opportunity to connect with local history, admire beautiful architecture, and enjoy free refreshments— all while soaking in the stunning backdrop of Wagstaffe wharf.
