Boundless Bonds Sunday Rope Social

Let’s come together to learn and practice our body-centred rope skills as a unique form of mindfulness practice. You can come either solo or with a partner. This event is an opportunity to learn more, practice your skills, and get to know others in the community who find this activity beneficial to their health and well-being. It is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. There is no requirement to tie, be tied, or even talk to anyone, you may simply observe if you wish!

About body-centered rope-tying
Originating in Japan as 'Shibari', the art of body-centred rope tying has transcended its historical roots to become a diverse and enriching practice. Today, many practitioners have channelled its techniques into an artistic expression that emphasizes the beauty of intricate rope patterns and the human form. Beyond aesthetics, rope tying has found a place in mindfulness and connection, serving as a meditative practice that fosters presence and trust among participants. This evolving practice embraces non-sexual contexts, with workshops, classes, and communities dedicated to teaching, sharing, and celebrating the art's therapeutic and spiritual dimensions. In focusing on its artistic, meditative, and community-building aspects, rope tying has emerged as a practice that nurtures mental and physical well-being, offering participants avenues for self-expression, personal growth, and a sense of belonging.

Learning opportunity

There is no formal workshop structure for this event, however the hosts will be demonstrating various basic aspects of rope handling and tying during the first two hours for anyone who wants to watch/ask questions and a 10-15 min guided rope meditation session will be offered in the last hour for anyone who is interested. There is no obligation to participate in any of these though and you are more than welcome to do your own thing throughout the afternoon. There are also mannequins available to practice on if you wish.

Wristbands: Boundless Bonds offers a wristband option for those who wish to indicate that they are open to being asked to tie you or to be tied by you. This does not mean you have to say yes if you are asked, just that you are open to being approached. The hosts will explain the details at the beginning of the event.

Food and drinks: Coffee, tea/herbal teas and biscuits are provided. Soft drinks are available for purchase. BYO snacks. No alcohol.

What to bring: At least one 8m length of non-stretch rope. Cotton, nylon, jute and hemp are examples that work well. You can buy cotton rope for a few dollars from Shiploads if you don't have any. There will also be a limited supply of rope to borrow for use at the event.

Can I buy rope at the event: Yes! There will be nylon and MFP rope available to purchase at the event.

Dress: Think active/yoga wear. Avoid heavy fabrics such as denim or fabrics that don't stretch when you move. The venue has a no shoes policy so please leave your shoes at the door.

Venue: The Boundless Bonds Wellness Studio and Rope Space is dedicated to the promotion of the health and wellbeing of its visitors and as such has a no drugs or alcohol on the premises policy, including smoking or vaping.  The address is on your ticket or if you intend paying at the door, please email unite@boundlessbonds.com.au for the details.
