Description

An increase in referrals in relation to Adolescent Violence in the Home (AVITH) has been noted across the service sector. Practitioners often struggle to respond to families where the parent/carer feels powerless and the young person is struggling with numerous challenges.

This two-day workshop provides participants with:

  • an understanding of the issue (AVITH), its determinants and the rationale for a family systems response

  • a family-based response which fosters change in the young person and parent/carer, placing particular emphasis on enhancing the parent/child connection

  • an overview of current Australian research on AVITH, detailed practice principles and opportunities to learn and practice key skills.

  • theoretical frameworks that inform their practice including family systems, attachment theory, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed practice, dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP) and narrative therapy.
