The Stuck Case — evidence and insights for effectice practice

The 'Stuck Case' is an exercise with a 25+ year history in the Family Therapy training program at La Trobe University / the Bouverie Centre. It has been consistently described by our students as "transformative".
This 90-minute webinar offers:
A description of the model and the context of its delivery
A summary of relevant family therapy literature
Evidence from our students of the impact of the exercise on their practice
Discussion of a possible neurobiological explanation of its effectiveness
An exploration of the broader implications and applications of this for family therapy practice, supervision and teaching.

Presenters
Robyn Elliott, B.A.Hons, G.D.Org Ch & Dev, M.Fam.Ther, M.S.W.
Robyn is a Mental Health Social Worker and Family Therapist with over 30 years' experience in the health and welfare, and tertiary education fields. An employee of La Trobe University since 1998, she is the Course Lead for Family Therapy in the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Therapy. Courses in family therapy are delivered in conjunction with The Bouverie Centre. While her clinical practice is with individuals, couples and families, and individual and group supervision across a range of presentations, her area of special interest is trauma and other mental health challenges that might benefit from the systemic integration of more individual approaches such as EMDR, havening, DBR and IFS. This interest crosses over into her work in the education of family therapists, and particularly how to resource students to manage performance anxiety in both clinical and supervision contexts. Robyn has provided consultation and training nationally and internationally to health and welfare professionals in family therapy, trauma, and in the supervision of family therapists.
Sandy Jackson, Family Therapist and Occupational Therapist
An employee of La Trobe University since 2022, Sandy is the subject coordinator of Year 3 of the Master of Clinical Family Therapy. Sandy has considerable clinical experience in the areas of public mental health, community health, and child, couple and family therapy and is experienced in leading teams. She is passionate about integrating couple and trauma work with systemic family therapy, professional supervision, family inclusive practice and healthy teams.
