'Passenger Pigeons' with Katie Yap | October 5, 11:00am

This moving program for string trio was created as part of Katie Yap's 2022 Freedman Fellowship project, 'Multitudes'. Featuring Simone Slattery, violin, Katie Yap, viola, and Anthony Albrecht, cello, three of Australia's most compelling musicians, 'Passenger Pigeons' explores the connections and tensions between humanity and nature; our hunger for progress when it comes up against the beauty and power of our natural environment around us, and the possibility for living within it rather than treating it as a resource.

"Such a special gift..." - CutCommon

About the performers:

The Bowerbird Collective makes art for nature. Their work has received international acclaim, and their ARIA-nominated albums of threatened bird, frog and mammal calls, 'Songs of Disappearance', reached the top of the ARIA Album Charts ahead of Adele, ABBA and Ed Sheeran. Violinist Simone Slattery was a 2019 Churchill Fellow, received a PhD in Music Performance from the University of Adelaide and performs regularly with Australia's finest ensembles. Cellist Anthony Albrecht was Australia's first graduate of The Juilliard School's Historical Performance program and enjoys an international performance career. Katie Yap is one of Australia's most in-demand violists, performing with Van Diemen's Band, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian World Orchestra.
