Brazilian Funk, with Karla Mura

Experience the energy and rhythm of Brazilian Funk in this dynamic and immersive workshop. Designed to provide a well-rounded educational experience in the style, the class covers Jogacão Femina / Rebolando, Dança de Bonde, and Passinho Foda, offering both cultural insight and technical refinement.

Karla emphasizes not only the essence, feeling and musicality of Funk but also the fundamental techniques that allow for precision and control in movement. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the style and history while building confidence, gingado, coordination, and performance quality.

Open to all levels, this workshop is an opportunity to refine your skills, embrace the authentic essence of Brazilian Funk, and train in a supportive and high-energy environment.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

Karla from Escola de Samba Sydney and Rio Projekt, is a passionate dancer specializing in Brazilian styles Samba and Funk, having paraded in Rio Carnaval twice as both a Passista and Musa for Unidos de Bangu and as a Passista for the world-renowned Acadêmicos do Salgueiro under the legendary Carlinhos Salgueiro. She has trained extensively in Samba with master instructors such as Carlinhos Salgueiro, Mayara Lima, Alex Coutinho, Márcio Dellawegah, Evelyn Bastos, George Louzada plus many more. Always refining her skills in the heart and root of Rio’s samba culture. 

In addition to samba, Karla has spent over seven years immersing herself and training in Brazilian Funk, working with mentors like Roberto Soli, Aline Maia, Dandan Firmo, Hilton Junior, and Lipe Rodrigues. She is committed to ongoing training to ensure she delivers the most authentic experience possible outside of Brazil.

Her passion for dance has taken her around the world, performing on cruise ships, across in Asia, and beyond. She was an original cast member in The Secret Silk, produced by Broadway’s Stephen Schwartz, and featured as the Brazilian Samba Queen in Liz Imperio’s - Colours of the World as well as dance for popular artists such as Charlie XCX, Dannii Minogue and and Redfoo. With a deep love for Brazilian movement, history and culture, Karla continues to train, perform, and never takes for granted the opportunity and responsibility to share the vibrant energy and deep richness of the Brazilian culture.
