Brennan Program Justice Talks 2024 #4 AI and Inclusivity in the Legal Profession

Does AI hold the key to unlocking a transformative method to obtain greater inclusivity in the legal profession?

In this talk Angelique Nelis will be examining the potential, power and limitations of AI technologies in creating a more inclusive legal workforce.


Angelique Nelis is a lawyer at law firm Ashurst, and is passionate about the law, creating an inclusive and diverse profession and social justice.

At Ashurst, Angelique currently practises in the dispute resolution and investigation team. During her time at the firm she has worked for the Canberra, Sydney, Japan and Singapore offices, having, earlier this year, returned from a secondment to Hong Kong. She attended the Australian National University where she graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelors of International Security Studies. She has also taken further studying opportunities at Harvard Law School and the Hague Academy of International Law.

Angelique was admitted to practice in 2022 at the Supreme Court of New South Wales. She is the founder of Lawyers For Diversity, advocating for greater diversity in the legal profession, an ACT Law Society New Lawyers Committee member and sits on the Global Steering Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator's Young Members Group. In 2023, she was awarded winner of the ACT Law Society’s ‘New Lawyer of the Year’. Angelique has a particular interest in the developments within digital assets, distributed ledger technology and artificial intelligence as well as its broader societal impacts.
