Bright Sparks Participatory Community Development activities.
A monthly dose of participatory community development activities for all practitioners and students.
A whole 12 months full of participatory community development activities. Unpack the theory concepts behind the activities. Learn how to make them more accessible for different people, including how to facilitate them using different assistive devices.
Zoom links will be emailed 24 hours before each session. If you miss attending, the recorded session will be emailed to everyone.

30th May: Power
An activity/tool to understand and evaluate stakeholders' sources and levels of power in certain situations.
27th June: VIP: Values, Interests and Positions
An activity/tool to compare the positions that stakeholders take on a situation or action (existing or proposed) with their actual interests and the values they hold)
25th July: Lessons and Values
A theory/process to better manage an issue by becoming aware of what values people hold and applying the lessons learned from successful actions that are consistent with those values.
29th August: Moral Conflict Assessment
An activity/tool to assess difficult situations where you are constrained to act in ways that go against your conscience.
26th September: Ideal Scenario
An activity that helps people imagine an ideal scenario that recognises and takes inspiration from past accomplishments and current strengths using one or more tools.
31st October: Sabotage
An activity to identify and overcome habits, established patterns, doubts, fears and other barriers to success with a touch of humour.
28th November: Negotiation Fair
Activity/tool to assess and negotiate what stakeholders can expect from each other.
**19th December: Systems Dynamics
A tool to identify entry points into a system based on an assessment of how elements in the system interact to create specific behaviours and situations.

January: Check-In and Check-Out
Checking in and checking out is a simple way for a team to open and close a process, symbolically and collaboratively. Checking in/out invites each group member to be present, seen and heard and to express a reflection or a feeling. Checking in emphasises presence, focus and group commitment; checking out emphasises reflection and symbolic closure. Together, they also ensure that you understand people’s expectations, meet people’s needs, and evaluate the process.
February: Accountable spaces
A reflection, theory and tool on how we can become more accountable for ensuring spaces are safe/r, accessible and more inclusive.
March: Gender Clock
A simple and adaptable activity/tool for exploring the dimension of gender dynamics in the home, workplace, and wider society.
April: Social Analysis (CLIP)
An activity/tool to describe key stakeholders' characteristics and relationships and explore ways to resolve social problems and engage people strategically. (CLIP stands for collaboration/Conflict, Legitimacy, Interests and Power)
