Event description
Come and join Brisbane's purpose-driven business community for an insightful day tour exploring a range of social enterprises across the city.
Impact Boom and the Business for Good Network have partnered with AMP Foundation and Westpac Foundation to create this opportunity, not only to hear from the founders of a range of social enterprises at various stages of development, but to see what's happening on the ground, expand your network and learn from key stakeholders across the ecosystem.
After kickstarting the day at Marhaba Cafe and hearing from the award-winning Nundah Community Enterprise Cooperative team, we'll jump aboard a bus with host Tom Allen (Impact Boom) and head south to Logan, where Tony Sharp will tour us through Containers for Change and Substation33; two long-standing enterprises employing over 70 people. Tara Castle (Queensland Community Foundation), Sarai Tuuga (yourtown) and Ian Frame (Youth Enterprise Trust) will share their diverse experience in a panel.
We'll then head for lunch at the Food Connect Shed, where Robert Pekin will show us this community initiative which was one of Australia's first successful equity crowdfunding campaigns ($2.1m raised). We'll be served a delicious lunch by Hope St Cafe (Micah Projects), while hearing insights from Emma-Kate Rose (Food Connect Foundation), Amanda Shepherd (Green Fox Studio), Annette Gillespie (Micah Projects) and Magnus Murray-Douglass (Boe Design).
To cap the day off, we'll jump back on the bus to Witton Barracks, a World War II site on the banks of Indooroopilly, which has been reimagined as a community and social enterprise hub. We'll hear from residents Peter Collins (Cleanable), Sonia Brown-Diaz (Yoga On The Inside), Benjamin Croft (Good People) and Luke Terry (White Box) whilst learning more about what the future holds for the site. We'll then get dropped back into the CBD, with new connections made for future collaborations.
Throughout the day, you'll also hear from Nicola Stokes (CEO, AMP Foundation), Amy Lyden (CEO, Westpac Foundation and Scholars Trust), Sally McGeoch (Senior Advisor, Westpac Foundation), Lucy Watson (Program Manager, AMP Foundation) and an array of Tomorrow Makers.
Ticket price includes bus transport, coffee/drink and light morning tea at Marhaba Cafe, lunch at Food Connect Shed and the opportunity to meet a diverse range of purpose-led people!
