Brisbane Space Industry Sundowner
Event description
Join us for the Brisbane METS &Â Space Industry Sundowner, a panel and networking event that explores the latest innovations and advancements in space technology and entrepreneurship.
This event will specifically focus on the innovation and commercialisation of advanced autonomous systems with two keynote speakers:Â
+ Dr. Sue Keay, Chair, Robotics Australia Group
+ Dr. Navinda Kottege SMIEEE, Research Director, Cyber-Physical Systems Research Program (Robotics, Computer Vision and Distributed Sensing Systems), DATA61 | CSIRO
In addition, there’ll be cohort pitch sessions from the QuantumTX Space and Technology Incubator Program. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from cutting-edge startups that are pioneering new space technologies and commercial applications.
The QuantumTX Space and Technology Incubator Program is an initiative aimed at supporting and mentoring early-stage startups in the space technology industry. The program provides resources, mentorship, and funding to help entrepreneurs develop and commercialise their space-related ideas and technologies.
The event will also feature live demonstrations of technology and robotics, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in space exploration and innovation.
Arrive at 5pm for canapés and beverages, for a 5.30pm start.
OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:
+ Dr. Sue Keay, Chair, Robotics Australia Group
Dr. Sue Keay is one of Australia’s most influential leaders in artificial intelligence and robotics. She led the development of Australia’s first robotics roadmap, highlighting how advances in robotics impact on every sector of the Australian economy.
Sue is dedicated to building ecosystems to support R&D as she sees robotic technology as critical in maintaining living standards, protecting the environment, providing services to remote communities, reducing healthcare costs, and creating more efficient and safer workplaces.
Named one of the first Superstars of STEM, Sue is a strong advocate for diversity, and is closely involved with global organisations for women in technology.
+ Dr. Navinda Kottege SMIEEE, Research Director, Cyber-Physical Systems Research Program (Robotics, Computer Vision and Distributed Sensing Systems), DATA61 | CSIRO
Dr. Navinda Kottege is the Research Director of the Cyber-Physical Systems Research Program (Robotics, Computer Vision and Distributed Sensing Systems) at CSIRO’s Data61. He was the Principal Investigator and project leader for the CSIRO Data61 team that competed and won the US$1million second place prize at the DARPA Subterranean Challenge finals in September 2021.
Navinda initiated and led legged robot research within CSIRO since 2011, an activity that has grown into a world-class R&D capability within the organisation. Before stepping into the Research Director role, he led the Robotics and Autonomous Systems group and also conducted research in legged robot navigation, perception and control with multi-legged robots with a focus on navigation in complex unstructured environments.
Navinda joined the CSIRO as a Postdoctoral Fellow soon after receiving his PhD in Engineering from The Australian National University in 2009. For his PhD, he conducted research in underwater robotics as a team member of the Serafina project which developed swarming technology for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
He is a senior member of the IEEE, and was the Chair of the IEEE Queensland joint chapter for Control Systems/Robotics and Automation Societies during 2020-2021. He is also a member of the ACM, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at both Queensland University of Technology and University of Queensland.
