Brisbane Wheel of Consent Practice Group
Event description
Wheel of Consent® - Monthly Practice Group - Brisbane
This is a free monthly practice community for those who have experienced and learnt the foundational elements of the Wheel through Like A Pro or Wheel of Consent workshops.
We gather once a month, on a Thursday evening between 6 and 8pm to chat and practice all things Wheel. The intention of this group is to nourish ongoing community and create a shared space where we can continue to explore and embody the Wheel practices.
Please note, whilst we welcome interested folk who are new to this work and curious about its application, this group is a practice space for those who already have some embodiment and understanding of the Wheel. This is not a workshop space. Opportunities to keep connecting and learning with others offers invaluable practice that continues to build our confidence and skill.
What is the Wheel of Consent®?
The Wheel of Consent® is a practice developed by Betty Martin as a way of supporting people to notice and communicate what we do and don’t want in dynamic conversation with others.
Utilising embodiment skills and strengthening our capacity to notice and choose, the Wheel supports anyone seeking to engage in meaningful and authentic agreement making.
Useful in intimate relationships, workplaces, friendship and general life, the Wheel supports us to be in integrity, clarity and empowerment with ourselves and consensual engagement with others.
Betty has established the School of Consent to foster the growth of this work and it is now taught and embraced across the world.
Here is Betty summarising the Wheel of Consent®
What you might expect to get out of this group:
Connection to a warm and caring group of awesome humans who have an ongoing personal commitment to implementing the Wheel in their everyday lives.
Opportunities to share and reflect on how you are using practices in ways that are enlivening and challenging.
Practices to support embodiment and deepen your skills and awareness in implementing specific elements of the Wheel.
Fun, laughter and chocolate.
The Wheel is a practice, not a destination. Ongoing opportunities to connect with other Wheel Geeks to continue and deepen our learning support us to keep nourishing the quality of our relationships and sense of self, and are useful in many contexts of our lives.

You are welcome to pair up for exercises, go solo or take a nap! It’s all participation and welcome.
Self-Reflection – Everything in this group is an opportunity and invitation for you to practice noticing. This includes noticing yourself, your body, your emotions and your mind.
Feelings are welcome – You are welcome in your fullness with your tears and laughter.

About your Organisers
Susan Stark:
Susan weaves together over three decades of professional experience, study and personal exploration, and draws on her qualifications as a Sexological Bodyworker, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® and Interactive Erotic Educator.
Susan currently works with individuals and couples through her private practice in Meanjin (Brisbane) and co-organises an annual sexuality festival called FEAST (Festival of Embodiment and Sexual Transformation). She has a special interest and long-term commitment to supporting survivors of sexual abuse and trauma reclaim their birthright to pleasure and sexual sovereignty.
In addition to providing support to individuals and facilitating groups, Susan offers experiential training and resources to healers, creatives and organisers interested in working at the intersection of systemic violence and erotic liberation. She does this through her business partnership, Rewoven.
Susan is passionate about sharing and practicing the Wheel in all that she creates and offers both personally and professionally. Practicing the Wheel in community has been a potent learning space for Susan over the past 10 years. She is currently in the process of becoming a facilitator with the School of Consent.
Jeff Flatt:
Jeff brings diverse experience to this fun and vitally important consent work by actively weaving together lived experience of addiction, community complementary medicine, plant therapy, and massage practice, as well as higher education teaching, management and governance. Jeff is immersed in exploring and embodying the Wheel and all its goodness and is committed to supporting this to blossom in society and within his emerging interests in Eros as the basis of transcendent freedom, sexological bodywork practice and community death doula work. Jeff is participating in the Like a Pro training in November.
Jeff approaches the Wheel of Consent as a practice that is able to - as Betty Martin eloquently says - crack open and expand the heart. To be with others in the exploration of the Wheel is a privilege, and to witness the simple practices lead to such surprise, reflection, understanding, bewilderment, excitement, and insight is something special. Jeff is honoured to be co-facilitating this Brisbane group and approaches this as a shared journey that can only bring good to the world through a vitality that becomes alive and beating within the hearts of participants.
Olivia Brincat:
I am delighted and honoured to be a co-facilitator of this group. My work is grounded in a deep commitment to creating safe, empowering, and inclusive spaces. I’ve volunteered with Alternatives to Violence camps and workshops, supporting young people to navigate conflict through non-violent pathways. In 2021, I served on the committee for Reclaim the Night, where I helped organise rallies and community events—including a body-positive pool party—to foster safety, solidarity, and joy.
I'm also part of a creative team that produced a podcast designed for victim/survivors of sexual violence, combining discussion and guided practices to support the reclamation of sex and sexuality. Currently, I’m involved in a documentary by Sydney-based filmmakers exploring the epidemic of sexual violence in Australia and pathways to healing and sexual reclamation. In November I'm also participating in Like a Pro training.
My background is in education where I worked as a teacher in a school for Aboriginal girls with experiences of trauma and instability, where the focus was on building trust, confidence, and community. My history continues to shape how I show up in consent spaces: with care, clarity, curiosity, and a belief in everyone’s right to feel safe and seen.
