Build it with Barry - Basic farm fencing
Event description
The Build it with Barry sessions
These sessions are designed to be a hands-on experience for people who learn by doing and want to try out new things or see how they are done. The sessions will have limited theory and will be more hands-on where people will participate and learn the techniques and tools to use (or not) for the project through participation.
Basic Farm Fencing
In this session we will be erecting a farm fence to separate two paddock areas. The fence will be a standard farm fence with sheep mesh at the bottom, and an electric hotwire at the top. We will also look at how to repair an existing fence.
This session will cover:
- Farm fencing tools and materials
- Putting in posts
- Setting up an end strainer post assembly
- Hanging a standard farm gate
- Running out and straining wire, and sheep mesh
- Repairing an existing barbed wire fence
Following the session Barry will continue on with completing the fence and you are welcome to stay on and help/ supervise into the afternoon.
Barry is not a fencing contractor or fencing expert however as a DIY person does fencing and maintenance around the property where appropriate.
What to bring:
- gardening gloves
- sun gear (hat, sunscreen, long sleeved shirt etc)
- covered shoes
- water bottle
Note: the host address will be sent via email to those who register for the event
