Building a local profile of poverty

This short course will help you build a picture of poverty where you live or work.

What’s it about?

Poverty is different from place to place in Wales. Some areas have more people on low incomes than others. But clear, local information about poverty is not always easy to find.

This course shows you where to find local data and how to use it. You’ll learn how to bring the information together so you can understand poverty in your community.

You can take this course on its own or alongside our Poverty in Wales: An essential overview session on 16 September. If you attend this course on its own, you need to already understand the basics of what poverty means and how it is measured.

What you’ll learn

The course will provide you with:

• A template to help you compile a profile poverty in your area

• Information on where to find data about household incomes and costs.

To attend the session, you should be able to use basic numbers (like percentages) and work with Excel or similar spreadsheets.

You’ll receive the slides and a recording after the session.

Who should attend

This course is for anyone who wants to understand poverty in their area, including people working in housing, local authorities, health, charities or businesses.

You’ll be able to apply your learning to:

• Focus support on the people and places that need it most

• Help with funding or grant applications

• Support planning and decision‑making in your organisation

The training will be delivered in English via Teams. 

Cost

The course can be booked as a stand-alone session or as a bundle with the Poverty in Wales: An essential overview course.

Single session:

• Subscriber special: £65 (plus booking fee)

• Standard: £90 (plus booking fee)

Bundle:

• Subscriber special: £110 (plus booking fee)

• Standard: £160 (plus booking fee)
