Burnout isn't about working too hard — it's about working in the wrong conditions, and in this workshop, we'll challenge the myths, unpack the real evidence on what's actually driving exhaustion in our sector, and give you the practical tools to build a workplace that sustains rather than depletes the people doing the hardest work.
If you've ever felt exhausted in ways a weekend couldn't fix, you're not alone. Burnout is real, it's widespread, but it’s often misunderstood. Most people assumes it’s caused by working too hard, caring too much, or simply needing a holiday. The evidence tells a very different story. In this workshop, burnout and workplace sustainability expert Dr. John Chan, will share the latest insights, including findings from the WorkUP 2025 Workforce Survey Report and the 2024 Psychosocial Hazards Code of Practice, to give you a clear and honest picture of what burnout is, what it isn't, and what's actually driving it in workplaces like yours.
But understanding burnout is only half the work. This session is designed to move you from insight to action. Whether you're a frontline worker, a team leader, or someone responsible for shaping organisational culture, you'll leave with practical, evidence-based strategies you can apply at every level. Gain a clear, evidence-based definition of what burnout is and what it is not, and what is driving it
Understand the elements of a sustainable workplace
Be able to identify psychosocial hazards in the workplace according to the 2024 Code of Practice
Learn practical, evidence-based strategies at the individual, team and organisational level that alleviates burnout and builds workplace sustainability
Gain a common language and set of frameworks for raising psychosocial concerns constructively with managers and peers.
Provide personal reflections and make small commitments that they can action immediately in their work.
