BUILDING A WOOD FIRED OVEN: PART TWO - THE FLOOR. Friday
Event description
Wouldn’t we all like to have our outdoor entertaining space enhanced by a wood fired oven? Did you know you can learn to do it yourself? If you would like guidance and inspiration, join the workshops and get hands on building experience. Doing it yourself can save hundreds of dollars as well as giving you the personal satisfaction of creating your own bespoke masterpiece. Perhaps you can share the experience with family and friends building life-long memories. Building a wood fired oven is more than just a pizza oven as it is an oven for cooking almost anything using wood as the fuel. Wood can impart special flavours to your cooking, fruit tree wood is often sort after, for example apple wood. So, in a big garden or a group of shared gardens, this can be sustainable source of fuel.
The process of building the oven is not just put it together on a week end. So, I will split up the building process into manageable steps, and where the process repeats itself, I will divide into parallel workshops giving as many people as want to get a hands on experience without going over the same process multiple times. I will step you through from supporting the oven to building the floor with insulation, the barrel arch, the chimney and flue as well as extras you may want to consider, including decoration. How to make your own tools, how to dry out by multiple slow firings and the last workshop will be a celebration of how to cook in this new oven. We will list where to source materials and how to scale the oven to a size which suits your needs. Book either Friday or Sunday when the workshop will be repeated.
