Description

This training aligns to Capability 9 - Delivering holistic and collaborative assessment and care planning.

This interactive 2-hour presentation will build social workers' confidence in identifying, assessing, and responding to eating disorders within generalist mental health settings. Participants will gain practical, evidence-informed skills in early assessment, family engagement, risk identification, and navigating referral pathways and treatment options. A neuroaffirming lens will be incorporated throughout, including consideration of common presentations among neurodivergent young people and evidence-informed adaptations to established eating disorder approaches.

Co-facilitated by an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and a carer with lived experience, the session combines clinical knowledge with personal insights to highlight the importance of timely, compassionate, family-inclusive, and person-centred care. Participants will leave with practical tools and strategies to support effective responses to young people experiencing eating disorders.

  • Chantel Kleiner - Eating Disorders Lead - Infant, Child, Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, Monash Health

    Chantel Kleiner is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Family Therapist with experience working across both public and private mental health settings. She has worked with children, young people, and families experiencing a range of mental health challenges, including eating disorders, with a focus on comprehensive assessment, early intervention, family engagement, and collaborative care planning. Chantel works within multidisciplinary teams to support timely, evidence-informed responses to complex presentations. She is passionate about improving outcomes for young people and families through practical, family-centred approaches and values co-design and collaborative partnership in supporting meaningful and sustainable change.

  • Leanne Burn - Manager, Lived Experience Sector Partnerships Team, Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health & Wellbeing

    Leanne is a Lived Experience leader with experience in peer work, service reform and workforce development. as Manager, Lived Experience Sector Partnerships at the Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing, she oversees statewide initiatives to strengthen LLE leadership, workforce capability and sector partnersips. Leanne has held designated LLE roles across public mental health services, with a strong focus on co-production and sustainable system change. She is passionate about advancing LLE leadership and ebmedding lived experience across the mental health and wellbeing system.
