Event description

Join us for a workshop presented by Caring Farms Co-Op in collaboration with Local Food Connect & Healthy Soils Australia.

Suitable for all experience levels the workshop will focus on the cultivation and management of low-till market garden soils right in the heart of suburban St Helena. Timed to coincide with planting of garlic crops in early April, this practical and catered workshop will explain the principles we use at our farm that can be applied to your growing space whatever the size.

The workshop will include a guided tour of the farm, offering a breakdown of the soil cultivation and management practices implemented in our market garden. Our two lead farmers will provide insights into the methods used to achieve success thus far.

A segment of the workshop will be dedicated to a discussion on the role of agronomist soil testing and consulting, shedding light on the scientific aspects that underpin our soil practices and contribute to the overall productivity of the market garden.

The workshop will also offer attendees the opportunity to participate in the garlic planting, observing firsthand the principles of regenerative market gardening. Specialised compost and amendments will be on hand, providing a practical illustration of the components integral to our sustainable farming practices.

This workshop will aim to be an exploration of the methods employed in cultivating healthy soils and promoting sustainable market gardening practices. Join us for a day of learning and participation in the pursuit of regenerative agriculture.

This workshop was proudly sponsored by Nillumbik Shire
