Building Resilient Care Gladstone
Event description
Building Resilient Care – Workshop for the Gladstone Disability Community
What makes your community strong – and how can we build on that to stay connected, healthy and safe during extreme weather?
We want to hear from people with disability, families, allies and carers, disability, advocacy and community organisations about your experiences and ideas for future action to improve health, community and disaster resilience.
Join a Community Workshop
Let’s talk about what’s working, what needs to improve, and how we can strengthen access to healthcare and support services during extreme weather events. Workshops are designed to be inclusive and accessible for everyone. Light catering provided.
When: Wednesday 28th May – 10am to 12pm
Where: Gladstone Events Centre, Corner Wood and Bell Streets, South Gladstone QLD 4680.
Share with us -
- How have climate hazards (heat, floods and bushfires etc) impacted you?
- What challenges have you faced in accessing health care and support during these times?
- What is working well in your local community?
- What ideas do you have to build community resilience - and what role can you play?
Why it matters -
With climate change bringing more extreme weather events, people with disability experience greater risks to their health and wellbeing.
Planning together is important, so everyone is prepared, supported and safe.

About the project
Resilient CARE is led by Country to Coast, QLD (CCQ) to support people to live their healthiest lives—no matter where they live or what challenges they face due to climate change and natural disasters. The Resilient Care initiative works with communities and healthcare providers to strengthen disaster resilience and support the health and wellbeing of higher risk groups, including people with disability. From mid-2025 to early 2028, Resilient CARE will be active across five local government areas at high risk of climate and disaster-related health impacts: Rockhampton, Livingstone, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Fraser Coast.
If you have any questions or need support, please contact Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) on 1300 363 783 or email qdn@qdn.org.au.
