Bunuru Six Seasons Series 2- Lowlands Beach
Event description
Thanks for choosing to take part in the Denmark Environment Centre Six Seasons Bunuru field trip. Please note that this event requires a relatively high level of agility for visitors to rock-hop across the boulders east of Lowlands Beach to reach the significant geological sites.
Larry Blight, traditional custodian and educator will speak about the seasonal changes that occur during Bunuru. It is the hottest season, with distinct easterly winds kicking in. Attending this excursion will give you the opportunity to learn about traditional fishing and hunting techniques used by Noongar people living in the area.
At the eastern end of the beach, coastal erosion has revealed expansive pavements of granite and dolerite beneath the much younger limestone exposed in the cliffs. Professor Katy Evans will help you learn all about the geological significance of this site.
