Burrill Lake Rock Shelter Walk
Event description
Take this gentle walk with Uncle Phil Butler to Burrill Lake Rock Shelter. This historical site was the oldest recorded site in Australia until the discovery of Mungo Man in Lake Mungo, South Australia. The shelter was the source of many tools and artefacts and and helped confirm the longevity of Aboriginal occupation and Custodianship of this Country. These tools were dated to 20,000 years and most likely responsible for a generation of us thinking that Aboriginal people had been here for 20,000 years...a date we now know was way off the mark.
Uncle Phil will share stories from his people, introduce you to the rich history of this area , answer questions and inspire you to look further at the incredible heritage we are lucky to be surrounded by.
