Buschenschank Melbourne
Event description
Join the winemakers from Eleven Sons, Werkstatt, and Utzinger for a celebration of culture at Cardwell Cellars.
Cardwell Cellars will transform into an Austrian Buschenschank for two days to celebrate Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
A *Buschenschank* or *Heuriger* is a traditional Austrian wine tavern where local winemakers serve their own wines alongside simple, homemade foods in a cosy, communal setting. Typically open only during specific seasons, the Buschenschank offers a relaxed and rustic experience with fresh wines, seasonal platters, and an inviting atmosphere perfect for enjoying good company and local flavours. Around harvest time there is also Sturm available — a traditional partially-fermented white wine.
With your ticket you'll join us for a long lunch with plenty of Sturm (an exclusive collaboration between Werkstatt, Utzinger, and Eleven Sons), special bottles and new releases from the winemakers, traditional Austrian delicacies and platters made with seasonal local produce. Food will be provided by Zoltan Fesco, who hosts his Pan European Picnic as a pop-up around Melbourne, and North Melbourne's Austro Bakery. Besides an assortment of cheese, charcuterie, salads, and pickles, expect Flammkuchen (Alsatian ham and cheese flambée), Pogácsa (Hungarian cheese buns), Elderflower Krapfen, Bienenstich (sweet yeast and honey cake). e
