About Me
The Ginninderra Peppercress is a cryptic species that has multiple petite stems growing to 20 cm in height from its rootstock. Found only in Canberra, it grows in the open spaces between low tussock grasses on 3 floodplain areas around the city. It is a herb that has beautiful, tiny, rosette-shaped flowers in late spring, just 2 mm wide and 1.5 mm long. One of those populations has the rare honour of being listed on the Australian Government’s Register of Critical Habitat.
Threats
All 3 populations are vital for the dispersal and ongoing survival of the Ginninderra Peppercress, which is threatened by clearing for development and competition with other plants for space and light. Further impacts include disturbance to the drainage patterns of its habitats and inappropriate management, leading to changes in the plant's open habitat, such as build-up of high levels of vegetation biomass from grass growth or weed invasion.
