Bush Gothic Ararat Concert
Event description
Bush Gothic launch their new album, What Pop People Folk This Popular. Bush Gothic are thrilled to be performing at the beautiful Ararat Town Hall as part of their national tour. The support act for the night is the Moyston Choir, an energetic new choral ensemble.
Using trad Australian songs as their source material their musical influences range from minimalist electro to jazz. Are they outsiders, lurking on the cultural fringe? Or have they penetrated to the inner core of Australian identity?
Midnight Oil, Trad and Alt J rub shoulders as their radical re-interpretations of well known songs dare you to hum along. Or make you cry. Get ready to have your homely and totally archaic notions of Australian folk music exploded.
Guest soloist with Melbourne Symphony Chamber, band leader and fiddle-singer Jenny M. Thomas is joined by double bassist Dan Witton and drummer Chris Lewis in what they describe as a post-modern bush band. Invited to perform at some of the world's most prestigious of festivals including Mona Foma, Festival # 6 (Wales), R.I.F.F (India) and Womadelaide, they have developed an international cult following amongst those who like their jazz intelligent and their folk dark.
BBC Music Magazine gave them 5 STARS, they are multiple Best Music Weekly Award winners at The Adelaide Fringe and winner of Best Band at the 2022 Australian Folk Awards.
'Enthralling' - The Times Of India.
